Bruce has started using clips for tailing and castrating new born lambs, and this has cut joint-ill cases. Whilst they do take some time to get used to, Brice says. the farm has benefitted from just one case of joint-ill last year. Bruce was also part of the 2026 Livestock Scotland Short Scrotum Clip Castration trial, along with several other farms. The results were an impressive 2 kg weight gain from leaving testicles ‘on-board’.
