QMS Standards – The word “Clip” says it all !

Page 27 describes QMS’s acknowledgement of ClipFitter for Lamb Castration and Tail-Docking in Scotland for ALL lambs up to 3 months of age.

We are easing our way into the official world with a 4-letter-word mention now in the latest QMS Standards documentation. It describes bloodless clamps, rings with anaesthetic and ‘Clip’ as the permitted methods for young and older lambs. ClipFitter is certainly the most effective practical method of working with lambs of all those ages.

This chart illustrates the enormous benefit for young in particular, and older lambs too, from the SRUC Scientific study in 2022. On younger lambs rubber rings with pre-applied (5 mins before) anaesthetic and analgesic failed to hold a candle to Clips, and older lambs, only a bloodless clamp with pre-applied anaesthetic AND analgesic could match Clips with no needles or drugs !
