Thanks to supporters in NZ, in particular Dr B. Helen Beattie, CAWI and MD of VAWA (Veterinarians for Animal Welfare Aotearoa), NZ Ministry of Primary Industries have recently been made aware of the UK’s AWC report to DEFRA, and the associated SRUC science, and have already issued this interim statement as they conduct their review into their Sheep and Beef Welfare review.
ClipFitter’s use for tailing hasn’t been given the green light yet, but time will tell as they study the facts over the coming months. The good news is that our Clips are on amber for castration – and with no other close competitors. Even the famous Numnuts doesn’t work well for that invasive procedure.
The big surprise is that DEFRA haven’t yet said a positive word, about “The New Clip Technology” – nor have they followed the advice of the UK Animal Welfare Committee’s (AWC) report – which recommended that scientifically proven methods like ClipFitter should be released for use while the law is debated and changed. Only Scotland has followed that advice.
